A lot of people don’t know that it’s very important to remove your make-up before you go to bed. The people who do know it’s important to remove your make-up, usually don’t know why. Either way, your nightly beauty routine has a huge effect on your skin! Leaving your make-up on at night regularly has it’s long-term consequences. Let me tell you a bit about it.
Your face gets through a lot during the day. It absorbs dirt, dust, grease, free radicals and other stuff, even when you don’t see it. For those who don’t know what free radicals are, long story short: they can cause early aging of the skin and tissue damage. You don’t remove just your make-up, you remove everything your skin captivated that day. Leaving make-up on does not only clog your pores, it can contribute to dark circles underneath your eyes too. Remember that the skin underneath your eyes is very sensitive! Eye make-up can get into your eyes and cause infections or irritations.

Give your skin the treatment it deserves and let it breathe at night. Your skin repairs itself at night and layers of make-up does no good to the process It can also leave traces on your pillow and be the perfect place for bacteria growth. Not a pleasant thought, right? It’s really all about routine. Once you’ve introduced this habit, you’ll never forget it. All you need is 5 minutes to get your skin sleep-ready!
5x TONERS: Tea Tree Water by LUSH – Alcohol-Free Cucumber Herbal Toner by Kiehl’s – Rosewater & Glycerin Toner by Burt’s Bees – Vitamin Enriched Toner by Bourjois – Hydro-Balancing Softener by Shiseido
There are several ways you can remove your make-up. I use make-up remover cleansing wipes because they’re easy and they don’t take much time. If you’re not a fan of the wipes, you can use liquid make-up removers and cotton pads. Getting rid of your make-up is not enough though. You need to cleanse your face as well! Basically, a cleanser will remove everything you missed with your wipe. After that, you can use a toner. That’ll remove all traces of your cleanser, restore your pH balance and tighten your pores. However, if you have a dry skin, be careful with toners. Most toners contain alcohol which dries out your skin. Use a toner without alcohol or a toner which states alcohol at the very back of their ingredients list. The one last thing you can do before going into your warm bed is apply a moisturizer. Doing these steps consequently with the right products guarantees a beautiful and healthy looking skin in the morning!
