I’ve been flirting a lot with MAC products for the past months and during a shop log I promised to review their Face and Body foundation. It’s been my go-to foundation for the past weeks and I like the results! However, it has a couple of downsides that you probably need to know before purchasing.
The MAC Face and Body Foundation is one out of many, many foundations MAC sells. This particular magic liquid comes in 13 shades, mine being N1. I’m pretty sure everyone can find a shade close to, if not completely, perfect. That’s definitely something positive! I can’t stand it when brands only sell three or four shades. Finding the right shade was a good start… Bring on the trumpets, time to test this little baby!
Downside number 1 is the bottle itself. It looks cheap, it’s not sturdy enough and it has a squeeze top. It’s one of those bottles I really wouldn’t dare throwing it in my purse last-minute. Such a shame! In my opinion, a perfect product starts with good packaging. Oh well, onto applying the foundation…
Note that the foundation has an almost water-like consistency. I didn’t know that when I tried it out and I squeezed way too hard and lost quite some product. I guess I didn’t know my own strength! Me Hulk.
If you’re just putting on one layer, like I did in the photograph above, it looks natural and your flaws are largely covered. It’s definitely not one of those cakey looking foundations! However, you have to use some concealer if you want to hide your most red spots completely. For those lucky ladies without redness, congrats, this might be a really good foundation for you! I think just one layer looks great already and I don’t feel the need to put on another. Still, as a true-hearted blogger, I tried out a couple more layers! It’s a great foundation to build up coverage. If you blend it out well, the MAC foundation keeps on looking natural and it stays on perfectly for a long time!
I’m not entirely sure if you can spot the differences between the two pictures – I tried my best! In real life, there’s definitely some improvement. The redness isn’t gone completely but if that’s a problem, fix it with a little concealer et voilà.
I’m pretty satisfied overall although I’m not entirely sure if I would buy it again. Worries for the future though, I’m more of a BB cream kind of person in the summer! For a foundation that costs $36 a (mini) bottle I expected more. Sure, sure, it does its job but no pump dispenser? No SPF? Not very sturdy and this cheap-looking packaging? Come on MAC, you could’ve done this better.
Have you tried out a MAC foundation before? What’s your go-to foundation?
