Flown over from the Asian skin care industry, sheet masks rejuvenated me-time and the world of face masks last autumn. Selfies with sheet masks keep popping up and every self-respecting cosmetic brand has launched their own twist on this trend. Adoring this breeze of fresh (skin) care but appalled by the insane prices for something you throw away 10 minutes later, I never really bothered trying a sheet mask. That is, until I stumbled upon Kruidvat’s home-brand sheet mask, retailing at merely 99 cents per mask. Intrigued? I was. And you very much should be, too.
Let’s cover the basics first. In short, it promises 5 things: the boosting of tired skin, moisturization, a softening and soothing feeling, the stimulation of skin regeneration and a fresh feel. Sounds like a good start to me. The instructions say you have to clean your skin thoroughly before putting on the mask for 8 — 10 minutes. The 3rd and last step is to softly rub in the layer of lotion it leaves on your skin afterwards. Easy.
My skin situation
In my opinion, it’s very important to share your skin type with your readers when you’re reviewing a skin care product. I have sensitive skin, the kind that reacts to new skin products quickly, especially when they aren’t targeted for my skin type specifically. My skin situation at the moment? Some dry areas are present but luckily, I don’t have any acne right now. Winning at life. Ish. 🏆 If this has you written all over it, keep on reading. If your skin is more tolerant than mine, well, you keep reading too.
Let’s talk about how hydrated this mask is. Like holy moly, it feels amazing even before putting it on my face. It’s unbelievable. I also thought the mask would be way too big but it actually was a perfect fit. It stays on surprisingly well, too. After 5 minutes or so, I did experience a light tingling sensation. Fortunately, the tingling didn’t end in that burning feel I feared. The mask feels nice. So far, so good!
My skin went from desert dry to hydrated in 10 minutes. It looks better too, as the lotion makes my skin look healthier and dewy. Fresh feeling, check. Massaging the excess lotion goes less smooth than I thought it’d go but that’s honestly no big thing. I wouldn’t say my skin feels any softer after using this mask. Pity. That’s definitely something they could approve. But for 99 cents, I’ll happily apply my favorite day cream after the lotion of the sheet mask has set in. 😌
All and all, I’d recommend this product and even though I’m a tad disappointed in the after feel, the Kruidvat avocado/cupuacu butter sheet masks will be in my shopping cart again soon enough.
Here’s one to lucky finds! 🍸
